The golden jubilee alumni meet for batch 1968-73 was organized by NIT Kurukshetra Alumni Association on 17th and 18th November 2018 at NIT Kurukshetra. More than a hundred alumni from India, USA, Canada, and Europe attended the meet with their families with great anticipation of meeting old friends.
The first day was marked with a city-wide excursion where alumni explored different aspects of Kurukshetra City. A group photograph was also taken. The day ended with alumni dinner in Hotel Saffron.
On the second day, the event started at 11 a.m. in Senate hall with a welcome speech by Mr. Anil Khosla, distinguished Alumni of 1968 batch. He talked about the quantum jump he observed in the activities of the college between 2016 to 2018 and the National rank of NIT which went up from 12 to 6 last year. It was followed by felicitating Dr. Satish Kumar director NIT Kurukshetra, Dr. Pankaj Chana, Dr. Vikas Mortal, and Dr. Vinod Mittal.
Some faculty members of the 1968 batch were also present who were felicitated by their students. Prof. NP Mehta, one of the Ex faculty, in his speech expressed his gratitude for NIT Kurukshetra. It was followed by a speech by Director sir. He discussed the 5 key areas they have identified to work on after peer review which were teaching and learning, institute and industry interaction, character development, training and placement and environment for students. He shared his view on the new curriculum introduced, accreditation, lab improvements, Gyani Global initiative, 38 R&D projects running worth 8 crores and 61 projects in partnership with organizations like DRDO, ISRO, navy, Army, Airforce, etc and the publications and patents held by the institute.
He also told about the Robotics, IOT, ML, AI, Big data, analytics, 3D printing, centers to be opened in the institute.
He proudly shared the 85%-90% placements percentage with an average package of 8.5 lakhs and highest being 37 lakhs. Companies that visited the institute included Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Royal Bank of Scotland, Amazon, etc.
Along with this he also shared his concerns regarding difficulties in finding good faculties these days. He concluded with inviting contribution and initiatives from Alumni in any form.
After his Speech, Dr. Anil Khosla announced that the 1968 batch has decided to support the establishment of IOT incubation center in college and presented a cheque of 25 lakes as a token of gesture.
All the alumni were felicitated by Director sir.
Mr. Vivek Marya, who could not attend the meet sent a video message expressing his gratitude towards college.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Mr. Pawan Dhawan.
The two-day event ended but the old memories it rekindled created some new ones.
