Our alumnus Vice Admiral Gurtej Singh Pabby, Indian Navy, was confered with the Distinguished Alumni Award by IIT Mumbai on 8 march 2019 for his spectacular achievements and contributions towards the Advancement of Technology  and leveraging Industry – Academia collaborations. The Vice Admiral is presently appointed as the Chief of Materiel in the Naval Headquarters at New Delhi where he commands the Strategic Guidance, Apex Policy level decision making and Future Aquisition Plan for Warship Equipment of the Indian Navy.
After  graduating from NIT Kurukshetra (previously known as REC Kurukshetra) in 1980, he subsequently did his  Post Graduation in System and Control Engineering from IIT Mumbai.
Vice Admiral Gurtej Singh Pabby has contributed immensley towards development and induction of latest naval technology and has been at the forefront of Navy’s green initiatives that include MARPOL Compliance , Diesel Exhaust Emission Control and use of Bio Fuels. He has also interacted exclusively with professional bodies, institutes, academia and the Indian Industry to encourage their participation and spearheaded the IITs and MSMEs in the  construction of equipment for ships and submarines for the Indian Navy. Furthermore, Vice Admiral has been instrumental in undertaking R&D / Indigenisation projects as well. He has been the supervisory head and the mind behind many challenging professionals issues and has left a lasting footprints as an ode to his commitments and success.
